A Door from Johoanna

Today's post brought this lovely package from Australia.  I just loooove getting packages from Australia - especially if they contain something as gorgeous as this:

Isn't that fabric wonderful?  Thank you, Johoanna.  It's great!

Johoanna created this page for me and its come all the way from Australia. Thank you Johoanna, I really like that fabric you've used for the background the perfect colour and pattern to highlight the beautiful leaf. Love the beads on the leaf too.

Goddess for Johoanna

My plan for Johoanna's page was to do something very deep and thought-provoking.  I should have know I couldn't do that!  LOL!

Once I found out about the Goddess Caffeina, I knew I had to portray her for this page.

I did a fairly simple combination of piecing, applique, and embroidery on the front of the page.

On the back, I used Shiva Oil Sticks and a stamp of the goddess Venus on some batik fabric.  The most fun, though, was learning about Caffeina and some of her "rituals."  Go to my blog for links to some of the fun things I learned.

Dreaming of diving in the sea - the photos

I really can't think of a better way to introduce the photos I promised in my post yesterday, than to show you the note sent by Johoanna.

The dreaming girl in the photograph looks so very sweet. Here are some details of the stitching around the photograph.

The printed fabric background really adds movement. There are many beads and small stitches alongside small shells. The textures are really interesting. Thanks so much to Johoanna.
The next photo is on the front of the card bearing the message from Johoanna, shown above. What a gorgeous green frog.

Dreaming of diving in the sea.

Imagine my delight when I went through the pile of post on my return home this morning. I had been away for two weeks and there, waiting for me, was a lovely package from Johoanna.
Although I have never been scuba diving, I was able to go snorkling during my time away. This page will bring back some delightful memories as well as being a lovely addition to my book.
I shall post some photos tomorrow.
Thanks so much, Johoanna!

Another Introduction

My name is Johoanna and I live in Orange, NSW, Australia. I'm 37 years old and totally addicted to craft. I've been making and creating since I was small. I grew up in a family where my mother crocheted and sewed, my aunt painted, and my granny knitted.

I love using thrift shop finds in my artwork. I'm forever looking for that something special to add to any current and future pieces.

The pictures to the right are examples of some of my skills. I spin, knit, crochet, embroider, and sew. I also loved working with mixed media.
My theme for this swap is "The Goddess Within". I believe that each woman is more talented and more special than we are led to believe from others. For too long we have accepted the place we have been given in society, but it is time to rise up and acknowledge our beauty, and our value.
I am looking forward to working with all the ladies on the swap.
