Hello

My name is Mandy, an ex-teacher (Primary School) in my mid fifties. I am very lucky to live in the heart of the old county of Cheshire in the UK.

A self-taught textile enthusiast, I love to play with threads, fabrics and wool. I make felt (the wet, messy way), quilt, knit and enjoy free machine embroidery.

(This piece is called "Tree" - free-machine embroidery over scraps of fabric on a home-made felt base.)
Never having made a fabric book, I am very excited about working with this interesting group of people. I know I shall learn a lot in their company.
My topic for this project is "The Sea". Living a distance from the sea, I really love to go and watch the waves whenever I get the chance. I love water, its sounds and movement.

  1. Hi Mandy I haven't made a fabric book either so i think this will be a lot of fun and a big learning curve. It will keep my dead wood in my brain working a little. LOL We have chosen similar themes as mine is coastline as i love the sea, beaches and espeically the groins. However, i hate going into the sea, fine sailing on top but the sea belongs to the fish and the land to us and animals and that is the way we should keep it according to me. LOL LOL

  2. P.S. I love your tree you have done with the felt and fabric. Did you do wet felt or use the embellisher?

  3. Mandy - I love your tree. I, too, like to wet felt the messy way. I just love the texture of machine embroidery on felt.

  5. Thanks for your comments everyone.
    Chris,
The felt piece was one I had made some time before, making the felt using the wet method.
